On Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. we plan to exercise the hydraulic dam gates.
The exercise will be in accordance with the California Division of Dam Safety requirements and their inspector will be onsite to observe the operation. We plan to let out approximately two to three feet of water from the lake.
Please take the necessary precautions to ensure that your dockside watercraft will not be impacted by this exercise.
EARTHFILL DAM
Those Pine Mountain Lakers who are interested in the history, present, and future of Pine Mountain Lake will find this bit of information interesting since it contains the nucleus of Pine Mountain Lake itself, THE DAM.
The Pine Mountain Lake Dam is a homogeneous earth filled dam with an internal granular chimney drain, down stream drainage system and clay core. The dam has a reinforced concrete spillway. The height of the dam is 120 feet; the crest width of the dam is 555 feet. It has the capacity to release 28,000 cubic feet of water per second.
The Pine Mountain Lake Dam is under the jurisdiction of the Division of Safety of Dams and the Department of Water Resources in the State of California.
Construction of the Dam cost in excess of $1.8 million. On November 20, 1969 the dam was completed. Water began to run over the spillway on March 1, 1970.
